Dr Maria R Dahm is a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for Health Systems and Safety Research at the Australian Institute of Health Innovation at Macquarie University.  She has previously worked as an Early Career Research Fellow in the Department of Linguistics at Macquarie University and now combines her passion for patient-centred health research with her expertise in qualitative and mixed methods research at the Australian Institute of Health Innovation.

She completed her PhD on the impact of medical terminology on English-medium consultations in 2012 and her research achievements were awarded with a Faculty of Human Sciences Higher Degree Research Excellence Award. Maria’s research interests include health communication, patient-centred care, workplace communication, pragmatics in intercultural professional contexts, and English for Specific Purposes. Maria has been Chief Investigator on two research grants, she has published 8 peer reviewed papers, and has 3 chapters forthcoming in “Communication in Surgical Practice” (Equinox 2016).
